Boogie-Woogie, mon école, mon quartier est une œuvre dynamique relevée en couleurs et en formes qui s’adresse directement aux élèves d’une école primaire de Montréal (Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand) en leur offrant en lecture le plan du quartier dans lequel ils vivent et s’instruisent. Elle s’appuie sur les principes de la cartographie.
Cette œuvre est un hommage à Piet Mondrian et à son dernier tableau : Broadway Boogie Woogie (1942). Ce tableau est une traduction du rythme du Boogie Woogie, une musique faite pour danser.
Boogie-Woogie, mon école, mon quartier joue sur des principes simples : entrecroisement de lignes, alternance de couleurs et de formes primaires. Pour assurer une compréhension de l’œuvre par les enfants nous y avons inscrit les noms des rues entourant leur école.
En plus de toucher à l’art abstrait et la géographie, cette œuvre aborde la notion de construction (jeu de Meccano) : elle est constituée de multiples éléments assemblés les uns aux autres, ce qui ajoute des effets de superpositions, des jeux de formes colorées et d’ombres portées.

Boogie-Woogie, my school, my neighborhood is a dynamic work in colors and shapes that addresses directly to the pupils of a primary school in Montréal by offering them in reading the plan of the district in which they live and learn. It is based on the principles of cartography.
This work is a tribute to Piet Mondrian and his latest painting: Broadway Boogie Woogie (1942). This painting is a translation of the rhythm of the Boogie Woogie, a music made for dancing.
Boogie-Woogie, my school, my neighborhood plays on simple principles: crisscrossing lines, alternating colors and primary forms. To insure an understanding of the work by the children we have inscribed the names of the streets surrounding their school.
In addition of abstract art and geography, this work addresses the notion of construction (game of Meccano): the work is made up of multiple elements assembled to each other, which adds effects of superpositions, sets of colored shapes and shadows cast.
