Sheet Metal Stories

Sheet Metal Stories takes as its starting point the old feldspar mine at Baie-Johan-Beetz, in particular the gigantic metal structure located there. After the mine shut down in 1962, the people of Baie-Johan-Beetz  began recycling the sheet-metal siding that covered this structure. We have tracked this recycling process through encounters with the people who made use of these corrugated metal sheets which can be found throughout the village and have been used as siding on a number of small buildings. With the help of the members of the community of Baie-Johan-Beetz, we organised some activities focusing on this sheet metal. These activities were photographed and filmed. We also took about a dozen of these sheets of metal which we cleaned and polished and installed upon a frame.
