Les Funambules du ciel

Les Funambules du Ciel s’intéresse aux  trois principales communautés Kanienke’a:ka’ / Mohawks (Kahnawake, Akwesasne, Six Nations) qui ont contribué depuis plus de 150 ans à l’édification de ces symboles de la modernité que sont les grattes-ciel (Empire State, Chrysler, Twin Towers…) et les ponts (Victoria, George Washington, Seaway International…). Les Funambules du Ciel vise à mettre en valeur ces hommes et ces femmes qui ont poursuivi la tradition familiale des Ironworkers : ce métier hors du commun qui a débuté pour les Mohawks en 1854 avec la construction du pont Victoria à Montréal. Trois sculptures ont été créées. Elles arborent tous les noms de familles de ces courageux travailleurs qui assemblent, encore aujourd’hui, des charpentes d’acier à des hauteurs vertigineuses.

Les sculptures sont constituées des parties suivantes : la cartographie de leur territoire de vie comme base. De celle-ci s’élèvent de fins piliers longilignes qui évoquent une structure architecturale. Le tout est surmonté de molécules d’adrénaline (force, énergie). Dans les molécules sont fixées de fines tiges surmontées des noms des familles des Ironworkers de chacune des trois communautés iroquoises .

The Skywalkers

The Skywalkers focuses on members of the three main Kanienke’a: ka ‘/ Mohawk communities (Kahnawake, Akwesasne, Six Nations) who have contributed for more than 150 years to the building of these symbols of modernity: sky (Empire State, Chrysler, Twin Towers …) and bridges (Victoria, George Washington, Seaway International …).

The Skywalkers aims to showcase these men and women who have pursued the family tradition of the Ironworkers: this unusual craftmenship that began for the Mohawks in 1854 with the construction of the Victoria Bridge in Montreal. Couturier Lafargue create three sculptures bearing all the family names of these courageous workers who still assemble steel structures to dizzying heights.

The sculptures consist of the in following elements:   the map of their territory of life as a base.  From it go up thin pillars which evoke an architectural structure. The whole thing is surmounted by adrenaline molecules (strength, energy). Fixed on top of these molecules, many thin stems bear the names of Ironworkers families from each of the three Iroquois communities.
